Having caused a global stir with her fellow activists by planting red flags on the Reichstag, Tine is forced to flee Berlin and ends up staying with her father in Bad Kleinen, a formerly East German village in the middle of nowhere. Yet there is no rest for the wicked: a perfectly preserved skeleton is recovered from the moor right in front of Tine’s house. Whose remains might these be? Are they those of a Wehrmacht deserter; of an agricultural cooperative worker at the end of his wits; of the ominous third spook involved in the capture of two leftist terrorists in the town in 1993? Speculation is rife. In the course of this filmic tour de force through a past that has barely passed, Tine ends up investigating not only the provenance of the corpse in the moor but also the history of her own family. The movie also won the German Film Critics’ Prize at the Max Ophüls Festival in Saarbrücken.
